| | This lecture was a review of certain topics concerning the use of general anesthesia for neonates. Several examples of topics included; preoperative preparation, historical evolution of anesthesia for neonates, and intraoperative fluid management. Controversies concerning general anesthesia for neonates were also discussed. |

| | Lecturer Biography: |
|
| | John J. McCloskey, M.D.
Dr. McCloskey received his medical degree in 1984 from Temple Medical School. After graduating from Temple, he completed residencies in general pediatrics, general anesthesia, and fellowships in pediatric critical care medicine and anesthesiology. He is board-certified in general pediatrics, anesthesiology, and pediatric critical care medicine. His practice is focused on taking care of the critically ill patient in the operating room and the intensive care unit.
Since arriving at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. McCloskey has been a member of the perioperative group. This group is composed of neonatologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, neonatal nurses, neonatal respiratory therapists, and O.R. nurses. Dr. McCloskey’s role in this group is to provide anesthesia expertise in the improvement of the perioperative care of neonates.
