Highlights from San Francisco: The 17th Annual Organization of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Training Program Directors (ONTPD) Meeting
October 17th, 2007
AAP 2007
San Francisco, CA
The ONTPD was formed in 1991 to provide an annual forum for program directors to identify and address issues relevant to Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM) Fellowship Training. Its membership consists of the program directors from all accredited NPM training programs in the US and Puerto Rico, which in 2007 numbered 97.
The mission of the Organization of Neonatal Program Directors is to inform and advocate for Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Program Directors about issues relevant to the educational objectives, administration and funding of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine subspecialty training. A key mechanism for meeting the ONTPD mission is the organization of an annual forum for program directors for the purpose of identifying and discussing issues relevant to the training of future neonatologists. The charge of the ONTPD is to facilitate the continued accreditation of high quality training programs that meet the long-term objectives of the field of neonatology and to serve as a liaison between program directors and other organizations that have a stake in the training of pediatric subspecialty residents, such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the AAP Section on Perinatal Pediatrics, the ACGME, NICHD and the American Board of Pediatrics. The ONTPD will provide a structure for the generation of ideas and a mechanism for the development of programs to support and improve Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine education, administration and funding.
