Program Overview |
|
Leading experts in the field will discuss neonatal respiratory management from the delivery room to the NICU. They will provide guidance and rationale for using noninvasive strategies in the management of respiratory distress, covering established and emerging therapies and techniques. The Panel will debate and offer guidance on when, how and why to use newer therapies such as NIPPV and Nasal High Flow versus more established therapies such as nCPAP.
Practical support for using Nasal High Flow in your own practice will also be provided (e.g. setting and titrating flows and FiO2, weaning and feeding). The Panel will then offer insights into the future of neonatal respiratory support and provide direction for clinical research. |

Learning Objectives |
|
The current symposium has been developed to educate neonatologists and perinatologists about the optimal management of RDS in neonates, with a focus on the appropriate use of non-invasive ventilation in the critical hours after delivery. At the end of this educational event, participants will be able to:
• Understand the pulmonary pathophysiology underlying the development of neonatal RDS, in particular the impact of prematurity on cardiopulmonary anatomy and function
• Describe the rationale for non-invasive ventilation in the neonatal setting
• Develop strategies for optimal management of neonatal RDS within the delivery room, and for transition from the delivery room to the NICU
• Apply evidence-based principles to clinical decision-making around the choice of non-invasive ventilation modality and system specifications
• Establish appropriate treatment protocols for the management of neonatal RDS within their own clinical environments, including for the weaning of neonatal patients from ventilator support
• Describe the future developments in non-invasive ventilation techniques for neonatal RDS. |
